An Especially Sad Day

Last year for vacations I was in Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa. That is a very small town where I lived all my life, until I moved to Guatemala City. Well, I had a friend named Lourdes; she was very cute, beautiful, generous, polite, sweet and lovely. She was my best friend.
One day my neighbor called my mom to invite her to go to a Posada, in her house. She told my mom, “Come at 7:00 or earlier.” Lourdes was there, and when I saw her I went to greet her. I stayed with her all night long because she was my best friend, but that night I started to see her as something else. I felt something weird, something different; something that never in my life had happened, and I just wondered, “What is happening to me, what I am feeling?”
Some days passed and I didn’t understand yet what was I dealing with. I decided to tell Lourdes’ best friend, and her conclusion was: “You are in love with her.” “That’s impossible,” I exclaimed. That night I couldn’t sleep thinking about what she told me previously. At the next day I realized that it was true; but I just couldn’t show up and tell her “I´m in love with you” or “Do you want to be my girlfriend,” because I didn’t want her to tell me “I’m sorry, but I don’t love you,” or “NO,” So I started talking to her sending messages to her cell phone. All we talked about was what was going on in our lives or we just talked about stupid things
In February 4th, 2010 Lourdes’ best friend invited me and my family to her 15th birthday. I was so happy because that day I was prepared to tell Lourdes what I felt about her, but first I wanted Lourdes’s best friend to ask her if she felt the same about me. Then Lourdes’ best friend came to me and told me “She loves you.” I got super exited and told Lourdes’s best friend, “Please, call her,” And Lourdes went with me and I asked her “Do you want to be my girlfriend,” And she said with a big smile on her face “Yes.” I was very, very, very, very happy. I was so happy I didn’t know what to do, and Lourdes’s best friend just said, “GIVE HER A HUG,” And I quickly gave her a big hug.
The bad thing was that I just could not see her for a few days because I had to return to Guatemala City to go to school. All of the days I would call her to greet and tell her “I love you.” We spent a lot of time talking, like 2 hours, and my dad just said “Stop talking on the phone!” I just said “Wait,” but then I went to the computer to the messenger to talk with her, and 1 day she told me “Hello my love,” I just thought, “This is the first time she calls me ‘My love’” and I felt so weird I even started to get blushed.
A week and a half later I went with my mom to Pradera Concepcion to buy a present to her for Valentine’s Day. I bought her a teddy bear with a lot of different kinds of chocolate, 4 different flavors of Air Head candy and a helium balloon that said “I LOVE YOU,” but like 3 days before giving her the present she called me and she said “I have to talk with you about something important,” and I just knew that she was going to tell me something bad. I called her because I was very worried and I told her with pain in my voice, “Just tell me, I know what it is,” Then she said “I love you and you know it, but we have to break up because I see you just like a friend.”  I just felt something inside my throat that didn’t  leave me speak, and I difficultly said her “OK, but I’m going to give you a San Valentine’s present because I bought it for you and it’s yours”
That was very special and sad for me because I really loved her, but actually we are good friends but we can’t see each other because she actually is in The United States and I’m here in Guatemala. But I will always remember the moments I spend with her.

A BIG CHALLENGE

This year I entered to a club in school, Deutsch club, to learn a new language because I dream that someday I learn a lot of languages such as: French, Portuguese, Japanese, Polish, Arabic, Greek, Italian, Hebrew, and more.
At the beginning in my Deutsch class I had a German teacher, her name was Konstanz, she was really cute, generous, and polite, but she didn’t spoke any Spanish, only English and German, and I didn’t understood what she said because her English was really strange, with German exhilaration. Sometimes she tried to understand what my classmates and I said, when we spoke in Spanish, but she just laughed and saw at our faces like saying “Please speak in English or German!” And one day she had to return to Germany because his friend’s grandmother had died.
Then we had a new teacher, he was from Guatemala, finally someone that could speak Spanish, but I think he hated us because he always talked to us very, very quickly in German and when we didn’t understood and tried to say something in German, for example “Hallo,” That means hello, he just told us things with a lot of sarcasm like telling us “Stupids”.
He was very angry especially with one of my classmates, Pablo, because he “NEVER” pronounced the things the way they are and almost always he was in his own world. At the end my teacher had to leave because his mother had an accident and it was very bad.
And for the last, my third teacher, Lourdes, is from Guatemala like my previous teacher; she is pretty cute, polite, generous, funny and kind. She always tries that all of us understand what she is says and she gave us all the rules of pronunciation of the German to speak it well. It only goes through my mind “Yes, now I can really learn” Then I studied and memorized all the rules because when I really like something I do my best to achieve that.
At the beginning the only thing that I think about was to get out of the Deutsch club because the first two teachers never teach us how to speak the language or how all of the letters sounded, I was very disappointed because my father was paying for nothing and I wasn’t learning anything.
Now I all the time practice my pronunciation with Michelle, we always are saying things like “Danke schöhn” that means “Thank you very much,” And “Bitte schöhn” that means “Your welcome”
I like to say a lot of words in German because that makes me different from the other people and maybe they think that I am crazy because all of the time I am greeting to the teachers and asking them “Wie geht es dir?” that means “How are you?” And they just stare at me, but I don’t really care what the people think about me.
I always speak in German to Maria Reneé because she always says “No me hables en lengua” And I just laugh and said “No es lengua, es un idioma.” I just want to speak German very well to achieve what I want and to be a successful person.
Learning German for me is a big challenge because is a new and unknown idiom that is totally different from Spanish, for example the numbers “Eins, zwei, drei, fier, fünf, sechs, sieben, acht, neun, zehn, ect…” But I think that with practice I will learn to speak German very well.
Now I realized that I`m good at learning new languages.

A LITTLE BIG PERSON

I remember the January 14th, 2011, the first day of school, I was really exited because I wanted to see my friends again and tell them all my stories of what I did over break, and listen to their greats stories. Climbing into the bus I sat in the same seat that I sit in every year and took out my headphones to listen music until we arrived at school. When I got out of the bus, I felt the cold air hitting my face and it wasn`t easy for me to keep my eyes open, so I tried to go to the class quickly.

Once there, I noticed that my class once again was section “C” and I was happy because I would have the same classmates, my friends, before I realized that some of them had been changed to the other sections. Instead, my class had a lot of new students.

I’m usually pretty shy, so with people I don’t know, I tend to ignore them or not take care. So, because I knew Amira and Marisa, I also started talking a new girl, named Majo. She seemed really comfortable like that was a normal day.

Time passed and we became a good friends; I noticed she was funny, lovely, polite, generous, and reliable. So everyday we sat in the same seat got to talking about the things that happened when we were in class and what we did during recess.

Because she gets on the bus before me, she sends me a message saying, “Hello!” And I answer. “Hello! You know always when you send me a message I’m in the bathroom putting my contact-glasses in my eyes, right?”

One day she told me: you have to download Skype in your IPod and make an account so we can talk and maybe do the homework or you can make an account in ITunes to use Face Time. So I downloaded Skype and asked my brother if he could help me make an account in ITunes. He did, and when my Skype and ITunes accounts has finished, I sent her a message telling her they were done.
The next day I called her on Face Time, but her image was frozen, and I told her that.             She said, “Call me on Skype.” So I called her, but she told me, “I can’t hear you!”, and I was responded, “I think, my IPod hates me”. We were for a while trying to talk but nothing worked. I asked her if she had turned up the volume. She laughed, realizing her volume was muted.

I know she loves to sleep because always that I’m talking with her she always complains about sleeping. She has a unique laugh that is so funny, she laughs even without hearing a good joke. And then her laugh makes you laugh too.

I think of all the moments that still have to happen, and the ones that already have happened are going to be good memories of our adolescence; some people maybe think that are just things that we are going to forget cause maybe we`ll never see again, but at least you have something to tell our children.

I just hope Miss Kelsey like this because I did my best trying to do it well and I’m not a writer to express the thing the way I want when I’m writing something.

I think Majo did a lot of small things, in a little amount of time, that makes her big, that’s why, for me; she is a “Little Big Person”.

Family's Tradition

Well, my family and I has something like a tradition, every single year my brothers, cousins, aunts, and I wait that my cousin Eddie come to Guatemala because he lives in New Jersey and we just see him once at year, my cousin is lovely, polite, generous, and over all a very, very, very funny person, and he behaves like a child because he loves to joke and play with all the children of my family, specially with her granddaughter Ale, who is my niece, so when my cousin is already in Guatemala we go to the airport to receive him and all the family hug him.

Then my parents, brothers and I go with my aunt to my house to let him sleep because he always when he gets away from the airplane he is so tired, so when he ends sleeping we start planning what we are going to do while he is in Guatemala, we always go to Petén, Río Dulce, Irtra, or any place that we find, because our principal objective is that all the family have fun and be together, when we find some place we call to my other aunt, Cesar, to tell him what we have planned to do .

After call my aunt Cesar, all of us start making the baggage to go enjoy our vacations, before finish our baggage we go put our suitcases inside the car to be ready to go at the next day to the hotel where we are going to stay like for 2 or 3 days minimum.

The day we have to go, we pass to a restaurant to eat something before go to the hotel because the road to the Irtra is very long, like 6 or more hours to get into the Irtra , so we cannot left with anything in the stomach, well, after eat all the family go directly to the hotel without another stopping.

When we are already in the Irtra, my cousins, Eddie and Cesar, and my father goes to the reception to confirm the reservation that they did before, and to get the key of our rooms to go there, take a little break, to after go to the pools, games, slides, restaurants and then go to our rooms to have a long and relaxing rest.

At the next day, after a long and relaxing rest my brothers and I wake up at 9:00 A.M., something like that, to go search my aunts to bring together all the family, to go eat something before goes to the train of the hotel to go to Xetulul.

When we are in Xetulul my brothers, cousins, and I goes to all the attractions like Hurricane, Choconoy, Galeon, Strugenser, Sillas Voladoras, and the only roller coaster that is there: Abalancha, that is our favorite, so we spend a lot of time in there because we get in it a lot of times, and we also play in the mechanic games to win a lot of stuffed animals. Then at 2 P.M. we go to the magic show and then we eat a delicious candy apple to the go to the train and return to the hotel to go to the pools and then to our rooms.

The next day we go to the Xocomil, which is an aquatic park, to take a refreshing dip in the pools and go to: El Tobogán Familiar, El Caracol, El Regreson, and other more. There is a place called Nido de Serpientes that have a lot of slides of different sizes and length, and there is one slide in which you can use a raft. El Regreson is one of my favorite because you get into a raft and then a person push your rift to move you and then when you are inside the slide all is dark and then light appear and there is a drop that make you feel a tickling in the stomach, then you rise in a big thing that makes you go back, and then you fall in a pool. At 5:00P.M. The park gets closed and we have to go, so we go to the train and return to the hotel to sleep.

The last day we have to go home, so we take the luggage into the car, then my aunts and my father go to the reception to give the room’s key, and then return to our home. At last when my aunt Eddie have to return to New Jersey, a day before, he invite my aunt Cesar family’s and my family to go eat at a good restaurant as Hacienda Real, T.G.I Friday or Applebee’s. And at the next day he has to go and all of us go to the airport to say GOOD-BYE to my uncle Eddie.
